Same Movie, Different Actors
Something that I've never been able to comprehend is why people feel the need to define teenagers. Whether it's our parents telling us that we can or can't do a certain thing, or our teachers telling us what we can and can't accomplish in this world, or the media telling us stupid statistics that don't matter to us. I think that sometimes people forget what it is like to be a teenager. Like somehow by becoming an adult they trade off their amazing teenage memories for a 9-5 job. I get that bills have to be paid and children need to be fed but why does that mean forgetting?
Forget how at 14 the best thing was sleepovers with your BFF. At 15 going to the varsity football game on Friday night was the highlight of your week. At 16 driving around during on summer nights with the boy down the street meant everything. And at 17 you thought you were in love and had it all figured out. Those are the things that make a teenager aTEENAGER.
So yeah, maybe things have changed since the 1970's but the Grease love story is still relevant today. People still not feeling like they belong, still indecisive, still looking for love. The only difference is that Danny's a football player and Sandy's valedictorian. Nothing has changed. Same movie, different actors.
